Where Can You Buy a Pair Or Red Mittens in 2012? At this point, the HBC stores have long since released their last batch of the Canada Red Mittens and most sizes were all sold out within days; including Zellers, Hudson's Bay Co and The Official Vancouver Retail Store. All of them are sold out and it is really disappointing to many Canadians who got all ramped up with enthusiasm to participate in the cross Canada Torch Relay, went to get themselves a pair and then found the shelves empty.
But don't despair Canada! There are now thousands of the red mittens listed for sale either by people who were smart enough to snap them up early or by the torch bearers themselves. About The Canada Red Mittens Shop  This is a 100% Canadian website, designed and built by a Canadian family on Vancouver Island, B.C., Canada. We watched on TV as millions of Canadians were disappointed to find that the fabulous red mitts, with the charming little white maple leaf surprisingly tucked into the palm, were NOT AVAILABLE. We decided to launch this friendly, helpful little 'hand knit' website to gather up all the mittens that were still for sale somewhere, so that people could get their mitts on a pair of those red mitts! So far, as of Feb 20, 2010, over 2000 people from ALL OVER THE WORLD have managed to find themselves a pair. We never expected to be hosting an international website, but it soon became apparent that the whole world was shopping for a pair of the Canada red mittens. It has been our greatest pleasure to have been contacted by mittens shoppers from every country, sometimes not in English or French. We have a great MAC computer that translates any language for us - that is really cool!  It is opportunities like these, where a Canadian heart is warmed to a full blaze. How wonderful to 'meet', via the internet, every day citizens of planet earth and have the chance to say to them with a big 'web style' Canadian smile

Helping the Athletes with the Red Mittens Sales?  All of the mittens listed for sale on this website have ALREADY helped the athletes when they were originally purchased through the HBC 'Own the Podium" program that supports our Canadian athletes while they train. The mitts that are listed here are being sold AGAIN by people (not us) who had the business sense to predict the popularity of the red mitts and then got a supply of them to resell.

The owners of this website do not buy or sell any mittens. The Canada Red Mitten Shop is only marketing and facilitating the purchasing of the mitts for those people who can't find them in their town or their country or their war zone!   This website is monetized through affiliate marketing advertising as are most websites.

Where are they made?  By now, it is fairly common knowledge that the mitts for Canadians to wear to celebrate our support for Canada & our athletes, were actually manufactured in China! This fact is still being disputed on blogs and newspaper columns across Canada. Why the heck did we not get a Canadian knitting company to make our Canadian Maple Leaf mittens for our Sporting celebrations? Same reason we get most of our manufactured consumer goods from China ... it is more cost efficient to produce them there due to lower labour costs, taxes and the great whatever that the corporate world understands and ordinary Canadians don't. In my opinion, it is a very, very global economic force that now is operating in every country in the world. We ought to be able to get used to it. China makes stuff to sell to us and we make stuff that they want shipped over there. The test of whether or not the international sharing of resources, labour and infrastructures is working, is to look at how our manufacturers & exporters are doing with shipping Canadian goods back to the world. When that sector of our economy is doing well, then usually, prosperity will follow; in the form of jobs, cost of living reductions and new construction. Most of all, it is really important to remember that the people of China, and everywhere else in the world, are our neighbours and our friends.

How Are The Canada Red Mittens Made? The official red mittens are knit using a standard mitten pattern out of 100% acrylic fire engine red yarn. The surprising little treat, other than that secreted away in the palm white maple leaf decal, is the gorgeous soft fleece lining. These mittens are actually really warm in sub zero temperatures.

What sizes do the mitts come in?Adult sizes S/M, L/XL, and kids one size and youth  one size, which is like an XS adult or XL child.
